Gone are the days of complicated DIYs that leave you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. With just a few key supplies and a couple of easy techniques, you can achieve that coveted Urban Outfitter look for a fraction of the price. It’s all about taking something old and giving it new life, transforming a basic mirror into a statement piece that’ll have your guests asking, “Where did you get that?”
How to DIY An Urban Outfitters Mirror Dupe
1. Get your mirror cut
Take your old vanity mirror to a glass cutter and have it cut to the desired curved shape. I just had my guy curve the top side of my mirror.
2. Clean the edges of the mirror
Clean the edges of the newly cut mirror to remove any debris. You want to make sure that your rubber trim edging is nice and secure and any debris will cause an issue.
3. Apply rubber trim
Apply rubber trim edging around the perimeter of the mirror to prevent cuts and add a decorative border. This is the step that gives the UO vibe!

4. Secure the trim edging
Secure the trim edging in place using adhesive or double-sided tape. You might have some that comes with your edging, or you can use E6000.
5. Clean off your mirror
Clean off your mirror, because it’ll be a mess if it’s anything like mine. Hang your newly transformed mirror and admire your handiwork!
Tips and Tricks
- Choose a rubber trim edging that complements the style and color scheme of your room.
- Be sure to measure the dimensions of your mirror before purchasing trim edging to ensure a perfect fit.
- Consider adding additional embellishments such as metallic paint or adhesive gems for extra flair.
- If you decide to cut your own mirror (I definitely did not!) be sure to take your time during the glass cutting process to ensure precision and accuracy, and use tools specifically made for cutting glass.
- Experiment with different mirror shapes and sizes to suit your space and personal taste.
What are some other affordable home decor dupes I can create myself?
When it comes to affordable home decor dupes, the possibilities are endless! Consider upcycling old furniture with a fresh coat of paint or new hardware to mimic the style of high-end pieces. DIY wall art using canvas, paint, and stencils can replicate the look of expensive prints. Transform plain throw pillows with fabric paint or iron-on patches to emulate trendy designer patterns. For lighting, try crafting your own pendant or sconce using inexpensive materials like wire baskets or mason jars. Additionally, repurposing thrift or found items, such as vintage frames or unique containers, can add character and charm to your space without breaking the bank. Get creative and experiment with different materials and techniques to achieve the look you desire at a fraction of the cost.
Where can I find a glass cutter to cut my mirror into a curved shape?
Google is your best friend here. There are usually at least a few glass shops in your area. I would google “local glass shop” and then call around to see who does cutting. It might take a couple of calls, but it’ll be worth it for this fun and simple Urban Outfitters Mirror dupe!
